Living the Tree

I have decided that I want to live in a tree house. Yes, you can now be jealous because it is a perfect idea.  When I was a kid I always wanted one, but there were not a lot of trees in my childhood home, and well after 8 my parents moved me to a lot of different places. Also great thing about a tree house, it is Eco, and I am sure all of you have got the idea that I am eco-crazy :)  Plus I am frightened by big houses–way too much empty space in all these big homes. So I collected a ton of pictures on different tree house ideas that I am sure I might even get you into wanting a tree house yourself. Enjoy!

Eco Fashion: Stella McCartney

I have decided to focus my blog more on eco-conscious living. I am very eco-friendly in my daily routine (don’t eat meat, buy organic food, use public transportation, walk or ride a bike as my main form of transportation, etc.). What perfect way to start off this new focus but on eco-fashion.

Stella McCartney has always been known to be a very eco-conscious designer. As a long time vegan, she does not use animal products such as leather, and all her materials are organic. Not only is she very driven in the green movement but McCartney is a very talented designer. I have always said that if I were to ever get married, I would want a Stella McCartney dress. She uses very basic silhouettes, but she transforms them into very elegant, feminine, every day wear. So for all of you green lovers out there, there are many new designers like McCartney that are making a change in the fashion world by promoting green fashion. I think we should support these designers as much as we possibly can. What do you think?

Sunday Adventure: Yoga

I think Sundays should be spent doing something different (or at least that is how I like to spend my Sundays).  I am really trying to get back into yoga, and what better time to start than today.  I used to do yoga a lot a couple of years back, but I moved and replaced it with machines, than moved again and replaced the machines with running, and now I am back in L.A and I never work out. I walk everyday, but I rarely have the energy to actually workout. I also want to get back into yoga because it not only helps your body but your mind as well, and being peaceful and rejuvenated is a must in my life.

This Week’s Guilty Pleasure: Accupuncture

Lately I have been seeing an acupuncture for a health problem I have. I have always known about acupuncture, but what I have seen in movies and on t.v,  never made interested. The idea of needles in my body, “NO THANK YOU!!” was my response; however I have had a change of heart for the very peaceful and rewarding medical practice. First off I have an amazing acupuncturist in Los Angeles, Brandon Lee. Dr. Lee comes from a family of acupuncturists, and he knows what he is talking about and doing. This form of medical treatment is very relaxing and calming, and it really helps boost your immune system, and relaxes you from top to bottom. Now to clear one thing up about the Asian medical practice, acupuncturists do not put hundreds of needles on you. They focus on specific areas which you are having problems with such as headaches or joint problems, and he/she will put one or two needles around the area. I am very happy with my new medical treatment. I wish I could do it everyday because it leaves me very relaxed and somewhat tired but in a very good way, but unfortunately it is a costly treatment because it is good for your health.

Earth Week

“Helping this world and the climate problem the planet faces is not just by what you buy, but by how you live,” these are not the exact words of Leonardo DiCaprio because I did not write down the quote, but I found it very empowering and true. Earlier this evening I was watching t.v with my mother, and there was an interview done with DiCaprio and his devotion to the ec0-movement, and what he does to promote and follow a sustainable life style. It is Earth Week and I feel terrible for not preparing something earlier since it is practically coming to an end. However, celebrating the earth and doing things to benefit a cleaner planet can be practiced and achieved every day. I am especially devoted to the eco-movement. I think my friends and family are getting sick of my constant ranting and enforcing of very simple things which help the planet stay cleaner. So in order to create the full effect of just bombarding my friends and family with being eco-conscious, I feel it is my duty to advise you and promote ways in which you can help the planet one step at a time. I completely agree with DiCaprio’s philosophy on helping the planet and becoming eco-friendly, and it is really simple to transition your life style into a sustainable and green way with these three easy ways.

1. RECYCLE!!! I am pretty sure that every city in the country has some type of recycling system or service either at your residence or work, or even some where near you. Did you know that just in the state of California 1 billion plastic bottles are being thrown in the trash instead of recycle. 1 BILLION! Imagine that number and all of the other states and other countries around the world. That is a lot of plastic bottles that should be recycled because they are only filling up our landfills, littering our streets, and killing the wildlife in both the oceans and on land. So please recycle. It is really easy and it will benefit the world 5 years from now and today.

2. Turn off all electronic appliances and lights when leaving the room or house. So this one can be difficult, because I know how easy it is to forget, but our natural resources are diminishing because of simple things such as not turning off the t.v or lights when leaving the house. Also the great thing about sticking to this rule, is the amount of money you will save from actually turning off these appliances. Your electrical bill will go down, trust me you will see a difference. Also if it sometimes slips your mind,at least switch to low energy light bulbs. Now to not confuse what I am saying, if you buy the energy conserving light bulbs, it does not make it alright to leave your lights on when you leave the house in the middle of the day, just turn them off; you will benefit from turning them off both financially and for the planet.

3. Bring your own grocery bag. Throwing away of plastic bags runs along the same frightening way as plastic bottles end up in landfills. If you forget to bring your own shopping bags, just save the plastic bags and your local grocery stores have added chutes to recycle plastic bags. Great right?! This is a new development which I am very proud to see in big grocery stores and not just Whole Foods.

These are three very easy steps when it comes to starting of in an eco-conscious way. I will definitely be doing more articles that delve into more ways for living greener, but for now I feel as though this has been plenty of information for you newbies in the sustainable world. For all of you that already do these simple steps, well thank you and keep going at it, because it really is important to start now and to keep going. To leave on a happier and softer note, I also thought I would share some companies that have really started to go into the eco-movement, or have started off in it and have stuck it out today.

Coachella, Coachella!!

Coachella is only 8 days away!!! I unfortunately cannot attend this amazing event this year due to schedule complications, but as far as covering the event I decided to do a post about some outfit options for everyone who is planning on going. Coachella always draws up so many people and everyone who goes has a unique sense of style which adds a lot of flavor to the lively event. I have created three garments for the three days which the event lasts for. All of the garments I have created have a boho influence and very casual and comfortable for the event. Along with the outfits I have created for Coachella I will post some pictures of fashion done in the previous years of the music festival. For all of you who are going, I wish you all a wonderful time listening to a broad selection of music as well as a safe time. Take lots of pictures of the festival, because these are the memories you will want to look back on in the future.

For all of you who are new to Coachella, it is a three day music festival held in Indio, California. It draws in a lot of people from all over the place, and even drags in many celebrities. Performers such as Jay-Z, Bjork, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Jack Johnson, and many others have performed at Coachella. There is camping available for everyone and it is a costly event, so definitely plan a year in advance when purchasing tickets to an event like this. Coachella is also recognized for their very sustainable approach to creating this music festival All the electricity is run by either solar or wind energy and they promote recycling and carpooling for the entire event. It is held every year in April for 10 years now.

If you are planning on going up to Mount Hood anytime soon before the season ends for snowboarding or skiing, check them out. It cost $10 on week days and $15 on weekends. Plus you will be supporting a very organic and eco-friendly company.  http://www.greasebus.com/
